District 2 – News
Today’s announcement that Amazon is set to build a new packing and distribution center, as well as a state of the art transit center at the State Fair Grounds, is a tremendous opportunity not only for District 2 and the City of Detroit but for the benefit and unification of Southeast Michigan.
Additionally, the potentially 1,200 new jobs this new facility will create represent another important opportunity to bring versatility to our local economy while employing residents of our great City. To that end, I hope and expect that Amazon’s new facility will become a major employer as well as a dynamic training ground for Detroit workers for years to come.
I thank all those from the City Administration, the Sterling Group, Hillwood Investment and Amazon who worked hard to bring this exciting opportunity to fruition. I look forward to working with my colleagues on City Council to approve this project.
Thank you,
Councilman Roy McCalister, Jr.
