DDOT Provides 20,000 Surgical Masks for Bus Riders

The City of Detroit is providing free surgical masks for DDOT bus passengers to further protect bus drivers from contracting the Coronavirus.

Passengers can pick up a mask as they board the bus, with masks available on every DDOT bus. Masks are one per rider, at no cost while supplies last.

COVID-19 testing begins for nursing home residents, staff

The City of Detroit, working with Wayne State University School of Medicine, has started rapid testing of residents and employees at 28 nursing homes in Detroit.

WSU medical students will go to nursing homes and test residents for COVID-19. Nursing home employees will be tested at the Detroit Health Department at 100 Mack Avenue.

City Offers Detroiters Needing COVID-19 Testing Access to Doctors and $2 Rides

The City has a plan to make sure Detroiters with COVID-19 symptoms get access to testing even if they don’t have a primary care physician, health insurance, or a car.

Detroit physician offices are now accepting new patients for Detroiters without insurance or a primary care physician. Once a person has a doctor’s prescription and appointment time, they can get a ride for $2 to the State Fairgrounds in a safe, sanitary vehicle through IntelliRide.

The free testing will continue at the Fairgrounds through early May, with more than 700 tests being administered daily.

City, Partners to feed employees on front line of COVID-19 crisis Detroit police, EMS, fire, healthcare employees, and other front line workers will receive free meals through the Feed the Front Lines Detroit effort. The City expects to provide more than 10,000 meals this month. Restaurants can apply to provide meals, and Individuals or companies can make a financial donation by going to http://www.feedthefrontlinesdetroit.com.
