Detroit contractors report completing plowing of residential streets; Inspections underway to ensure all streets in good condition

City contractors are reporting that all 1884 miles of neighborhood residential streets they are responsible for have been plowed. The Department of Public Works (DPW) also continues plowing and salting 673 miles of major thoroughfares.

This has been the first major snowstorm of 2022 giving neighborhood plowing contractors 36 hours from 6:00 a.m. yesterday until 6:00 p.m. today to plow a 16-foot-wide path down all city residential streets.

Contractors have reported completing their work across the city after starting at 6:00 AM yesterday.  Due to lower-than-expected accumulations, a second citywide pass down side streets is not needed, according to DPW Director Ron Brundidge. Brundidge said that residents may see 2-3 inches of new accumulation if their street was plowed prior to yesterday afternoon’s snowfall.  The threshold for plowing residential streets is approximately six inches.

Inspection crews are out checking to ensure streets are in good condition.  The City’s General Services Department (GSD) is assisting with residential routes that may still need special attention.

Trash pick-up in the city has remained on schedule through this snow event.
