City expands COVID-19 vaccine eligibility at TCF Center to southeast Michigan manufacturing employees who live or work in DetroitThousands of manufacturing employees living or working in Detroit are now eligible to receive their COVID vaccine as another expansion was announced today by Mayor Mike Duggan. The eligibility includes Detroit residents working at manufacturing plants in the city or the suburbs, as well as suburban residents employed by manufacturers located in Detroit. The Detroit Health Department will set up on-site vaccinations at major manufacturing centers in Detroit. Employees at the two Jeep plants (Jefferson North and Mack) will be offered vaccinations on site in partnership with Ascension Health. Other major Detroit manufacturers should contact Detroit at Work to arrange on-site vaccinations. Employees will need to show proof of employment (pay stub, company ID, etc.) when they arrive at the TCF Center on the day of the appointment. Scheduling AppointmentsEligible individuals can call (313) 230-0505 between 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., Monday – Friday to make an appointment and arrange for transportation. Vaccinations will be administered by appointment only. COVID-19 Vaccination Dashboard ExpandedChief Public Health Director Denise Fair also announced that the City’s public vaccination dashboard now includes the race of those receiving vaccinations at the TCF Center and through Health Department outreach programs. As of March 2, nearly 82% of Detroit residents vaccinated are African American, while 15% are white and 3% other races. Eligible Detroit senior citizens can get COVID-19 vaccinations during Senior Saturdays at two additional locationsThe City of Detroit is expanding its delivery of the COVID-19 vaccine to seniors ages 60 and older with the addition of two new Senior Saturday locations starting this weekend. City of Detroit and local and national fire union officials today announced plans to address substance abuse among firefighters by improving the Fire Department’s employee assistance program and conducting an environmental audit of fire personnel. The announcement was made at Mayor Mike Duggan’s news briefing March 2 in response to recent reports of on-duty firefighters operating under the influence that resulted in damage to City vehicles. Mayor Duggan was joined by Fire Commissioner Eric Jones, Detroit Firefighters Association President Tom Gehart, Deputy Mayor Conrad Mallett and Ed Kelly, General Secretary-Treasurer General of the International Association of Firefighters. Both the Mayor and Fire Commissioner emphasized that alcohol is not allowed on Fire Department premises and personnel should not operate under the influence of drugs or alcohol while on duty, according to current department policy. Employees who violate the policy will face disciplinary action. The Mayor and Fire Commissioner outlined the approach to addressing the situation.
